Training Director Lectures on Accessible ICT while Deaf Coordinator Explains about MCCID
Mr. Jojo Esposa Jr. and Mr. Ervin Reyes formed part of the resource persons during the "Focal Persons Workshop on Accessible ICT" held at Summer Place Hotel, Baguio City from February 19 - 23, 2007. Attended by 32 regional focal persons and their IT counterpart from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), the workshop focuses on the importance if information and communications technology and the removal of barriers making it accessible to everyone including persons with disabilities. Jojo Esposa of lectured on "What is Accessible ICT?", Ervin Reyes of MCCID, clarified the deaf friendliness of computers while Gimar Aguillon, deaf webmaster of Nova Foundation and MCCID alumnus proved that disability is not a hindrance in getting the right job.MCCID Director is First President of Philippine Web Accessibility Group Sir Jojo Esposa became the first president of the newly registered Philippine Web Accessibility Group, Incorporated. The non-stock, non-profit group, which now has an e-group member of 121, has been registered at the Securities and Exchange Commission last May 17, 2007. Also included in the Board of Trustees are Ervin Reyes and Gimar Aguillon.MCCID Director Authors "Basic Web Accessibility Guide for Filipinos" Book The 102 page book "Web Accessibility Guide for Filipinos" is now officially written, published and copyrighted by MCCID Training Director, Sir Jojo I. Esposa. The book contains definition of web accessibility, types of assistive devices available, laws affecting disability in the Philippines, statistics of Filipino PWDs and Filipino Internet user statistics. It also details the history of web accessibility initiatives in the Philippines from 2003 up to the present. |

MCCID Champions Participate in 7th International Skills Competition with Aldrin Gabriel Receiving 4th Place
The Philippine delegation led by National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons and Abilympics Philippines representative participated in the 7th International Abilympics Skills Competition held at Shizuoka, Japan from November 13 - 19, 2007. A total of 11 persons with disabilities who won during the 12 Philippine National Skills Competition including MCCID alumni Dianne Barcelona, Aldrin Gabriel and Glenn Ortega did their best in competing against champions from 28 countries. Sir Jojo Esposa was among the coaches and the official sign language interpreter.

Malabon City Mayor Awards MCCID Alumni
MCCID alumni Aldrin D. Gabriel and Ronald Josef Santiago had been recently awarded the "Gawad ng Pagpapahalaga" (Award of Recognition) by Kalipunan ng mga Samahan sa Malabon during the Gintong Parangal Awards Night held at the City Hall. This recognition was given to Gabriel and Santiago as an expression of pride and honor for the City of Malabon. They were able to contribute excellence in their profession despite their disabilities and has attained a greater and productive well being. Malabon City Mayor Canuto Oreta personally handed the awards to them.Coolaire, DFA Hire MCCID Graduates Coolaire Consolidated, Inc. a multinational company based in Quezon City known for being the best in fire protection and refrigeration industry in the Philippines has recently hired MCCID alumnus Marlon Dela Torre. Also, three deaf graduates Renato Moran, Ma. Teresa Capilitan and Rona May Dela Cruz were also recently hired on a contractual basis by the Department of Foreign Affairs through the assistance of Nova Foundation for the Differently Abled, Inc. They all work as office clerks/assistants.MCCID Participates in Disability Programs MCCID participated in the 29th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Program of the Quezon City Government held last July 21 at QC Hall Covered Walk. Selected MCCID students presented a sign language and dance program while Sir Jojo gave a short lecture/introduction about the school.
MCCID Online Celebrates its 10th Year For the past ten years, MCCID Online has informed the world about the activities of the Filipino Deaf and their activities. MCCID Training Director at GAWDS Web Site

MCCID Training Director Sir Jojo Esposa Jr. was featured in the front page of the Guild of Accessible Web Designers Website since September 4, 2006 as part of his efforts in promoting web accessibility in the Philippines and introducing Philippine Web Accessibility Group (PWAG) through the initiatives of the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons (NCWDP). Mr. Esposa is currently the only Filipino member of the international group of web accessibility advocates based in the United Kingdom.MCCID Now an International GAWDS Member Manila Christian Computer Institute for the Deaf Foundation, Inc. through its Training Director, Sir Jojo I. Esposa Jr., is now a full member of the international Guild of Accessible Web Designers. In an official letter sent by GAWDS administrator Ms. Mel Pedley, MCCID has passed the web standards set by the international group and they are willing to assist Mr. Esposa in whatever way they can in order to promote web accessibilty. |

MCCID Students Demonstrate their Skills in Job Fair 2006
Four skilled graduates/students of Manila Christian Computer Institute for the Deaf were tasked to demonstrate their computer skills during the Job Fair for Persons with Disabilities 2006 at the Occupational Safety and Health Auditorium in Quezon City with Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo graced the event which helps disabled citizens apply for jobs and or possible training. The yearly job fair was co-sponsored by the Technical Education and Skills Development Auhority (TESDA), Office of the President, Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons (NCWDP). |

Webmasters' Interface on Accessible ICT for PWDs Held
Sir Jojo Esposa Jr. provided a short lecture about deaf, deafness as a disability and good practices on designing accessible websites based on the experience of www.mccid.edu.ph site during the Webmaster's Interface on Accessible ICT for Persons with Disabilities (PWD) held from May 15 - 18, 2006 at Mango Park Hotel, Cebu City.MCCID won in Various Sports Events Ericson Guillermo got the championship trophy in the 1st Deaf Badminton Tournament. Mark Anthony Ty bags the silver medal in Men's Division while Kristine Salvador receives the silver medal in Women's Division during the 1st Chess Tournament for the Deaf. Five members of MCCID team won special awards in the 1st Deaf Basketball Games. They are: Emil Zion Punzalan - Mythical 5; Jerome Marzan, Sir Oscar Purificacion and Jose Juan Bautista - Defense; and Ma'am Dianne Barcelona - Best Muse. MCCID also received the Plaque of Participation.MCCID Signs MOA with DOST-MIRDC The Metals Industry Research and Development Center (MIRDC), an attached agency of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) signed a Memorandum of Agreement with Manila Christian Computer Institute for the Deaf held last April 26, 2006 at the DOST-MIRDC Training Room, Bicutan, Taguig City.MCCID wins 3rd Place in Waste Reuse Tilt Gibson A. Cruz, 1st year DBT student won third place and "Most Versatile Award" in the On-the-Spot Waste Re-use Contest for his "Gift Box" entry while Dianne A. Barcelona's "Picture Frame with Flower Vase" won the Most Attractive award. The contest was held last July 21, 2006 at SM San Lazaro. A total of twenty four persons with disabilities competed in this event sponsored by the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons (NCWDP). Five Gold, Five Silver and One Bronze Medals of Excellence in 2nd NCR - Abilympics Skills Competition
A total of five gold medals (Web Page Design, English Text Processing, Desktop Publishing, Cabinet Making and Photography), Five silver medals (Web Page Design, English Text Processing, two from Computer Assembly and Poster Designing) as well as one bronze medal (painting oil on canvass) were given to MCCID students during the NCR - Regional Abilympics Skills Competition last November 2005.MCCID Director and Student Receive Excellence Awards Sir Jojo I. Esposa received the People's Choice Award aged 40 and below for his achievement in the field of Education for the disabled. Aldrin D. Gabriel also received the Asia-Pacific Excellence Award for persons with disabilities. The award was given by the National Consumers Foundation.Silent World Comic Strip Published in Manila Bulletin Comic strips designed by Sir Ervin Reyes, Sir Oscar Purificacion and Dianne Barcelona were published in the Manila Bulletin from September to November 2005. 100% Passing Rate in Data Encoding Certification Examination

Marinela Veras, class valedictorian was the first deaf graduate hired by former judge now 3-time City Councillor Casimiro Sison.Annual Sports Fest was introduced In line with the program of deaf’s social integration with the hearing community, MCCID participated in the Sports Fest 2000 held at the Sta. Mesa district. Although they are combined with the hearing, they were given enough exposure in the team events like basketball, volleyball and table tennis. They did not receive any medals but they were given recognition for the efforts that they have accomplished. |

Sir Ervin and now Ma'am Marinela Veras received the awards during the annual Deaf Awareness Week Program held at Mandaluyong City Hall presented by Metro Manila Association of Agencies for the Deaf.MCCID Creates House Visit Program House Visit activity was included as part of MCCID's program of bridging the gap between deaf students and their mostly hearing families. This is part of the student's Personality Development and Public Relations subject. It has renewed relationships among parents and deaf child as well as developed bonding between the school and the family. Most families don't know how to communicate through sign language. This has become an opportunity for the parents to talk to their children spontaneously with the aid of a sign language interpreter. This program has proven to be successful and effective in bridging the communication gap between deaf children and their parents. No other school does this program. |

Philippine Senator Hires 5 More MCCID Graduates
Former Senator now President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo accepted five more deaf graduates of MCCID to work under her senatorial staff.MCCID Graduate Receives Encoder of the Year Award MCCID 2nd batch graduate, Leah Lopez bested all the hearing employees and among her 14 other deaf counterparts by winning the Encoder of the Year award during this years' Team Building Seminar sponsored by NOVA Management Corporation. The company is a data encoding services corporation that accepts hearing impaired in their work force mostly from MCCID. Other deaf alumni also received awards. They are: Aldrin Medina, Perfect Attendance Award; Reynaldo Famisan, Most Promising Employee and Joel Billedo, Most Improved Performance Award. Each received P500 cash reward aside from the certificate of recognition. |

MCCID Opens Program for Employment Assistance
As part of its innovative approach to training, MCCID included a program to assist the students in getting documents that are needed in applying for a job. They are being brought to government agencies and helped in getting Birth Certificates (National Statistics Office), Social Security Systems ID, National Bureau of Investigation Clearance and Tax Identification Numbers. No other school for the deaf in the Philippines has this program. |

MCCID Online Debuts on the Internet
The first and only web site dedicated to the deaf in the Philippines went online as early as 1997, two years after the introduction of the Internet. It features everything about MCCID and includes a directory of institutions for the deaf in the country. It is also the most popular website for the Deaf still alive up to this time. MCCID Conducts first Deaf Awareness Week Program
In line with the Philippine government’s directive proclaiming every second week of November as Deafness Awareness Week, MCCID Conducted its first Deaf Awareness Week program for the hearing community in Sta. Mesa, Manila. Products made by the Deaf were exhibited at the lobby like t-shirts, novelty items, Christmas decors and computer softwares for the deaf. Also, a weeklong free sign language training was conducted and mini-theater presentation of “A Deaf To Remember” focusing on the Filipino Deaf Culture.MCCID increases program to One Year In June 1994, MCCID created the one-year Computer Software Operations Technology Course with 11 students initially enrolled. Two of them, Oscar Purificacion and Carol Cordero eventually became MCCID faculty. |
