MCCID Bags Badminton Male Singles
MCCID donates three major trophies
Ericson Guillermo, first year Diploma in Business Technology (DBT) student of MCCID got the championship trophy in the 1st Deaf Badminton Tournament held last July 16 at Mandaluyong Badminton court, City Hall Complex, Maysilo Circle, Mandaluyong City.
The team of Jhodie France Bautista and Gibson Cruz, both 1st year students, also got the 3rd place in the mixed doubles event. Sir Oscar M. Purificacion was the team coach of MCCID. The tournament was participated in by three post-secondary schools for the deaf in Metro Manila namely CAP College School for the Deaf, DLS-College of St. Benilde and MCCID.
The event was administered by the Philippine Deaf Life and Sports Club, a SEC registered group that focuses on sports activities for the deaf. The purpose of this tournament is to promote camaraderie and sportsmanship among the deaf community and to showcase their skills in the sport of badminton. Its chairman, Mr. Camilo M. Mendz IV said that the winners of this competition hopefully will be the representative of the Philippine deaf team in international badminton games.
Winners of the other events are as follows: DLS-CSB - Champion, Mixed Doubles, CAP College SFD - Champion Female Singles. Each of the three champions received a 2 ft. gold trophy with badminton shuttle cock on top donated by MCCID as part of its support for the event. Mr. Dennis Rhoneil C. Balan, is the Vice Chairman of the club.
