MCCID celebrates its web presence this month with the launching of MCCID Online Website ten years ago.
The first and only web site dedicated to the deaf in the Philippines went online as early as 1997, two years after the introduction of the Internet. It featured everything about MCCID and includes a directory of institutions for the deaf in the Philippines. It is also the most popular website for the Deaf in the country still in existence up to today. The web address www.geocities.com/athens/9385 is linked by many institutions for the disabled community worldwide.
For the past ten years, MCCID Online has informed the world about the activities of the Filipino Deaf and their activities. A number of international institutions were able to access Philippine based organizations and foundations for the deaf including Summer Institute of Linguistics and World Games for the Deaf.
When Yahoo acquired Geocities in January 1999, it reconfigured the whole setup of naming web communities. However, it retained some of the sites that are proven useful and is linked by related websites including this site.
