As the oldest school for the deaf in Asia celebrated its 100th year, what fitting way to do it than to recognize people who have made it survive successfully through the years.

With the theme, "100 Years and More of Total Commitment: Silence Speaks Beyond Barriers", the Philippine School for the Deaf, though the dedicated leadership of its principal Dr. Yolanda T. Capulong, held a grand ceremony last December 1 at DBP Social Hall, Makati City. Highlight of the affair was the awarding of plaque of recognition to 100 people and organizations that helped shape the progress of the Filipino deaf.

Among the recipients of the award are: Sir Ervin R. Reyes (MCCID Deaf Coordinator) - Most Outstanding Alumnus, Ma'am Carolina T. Cordero-Bie (Former MCCID Faculty) - Most Outstanding Alumna and Ma'am Teresa B. Buenaventura (MCCID Board of Incorporator and former faculty) - Most Outstanding Sign Language Interpreter. Ma'am Carol is already based in the USA while Ma'am Tess is still connected with Catholic Ministry for the Deaf People and DLS-College of St. Benilde.
