Now on its eleventh year, MCCID College again held its Valentine’s day program last February 21 at MCCID Lecture Hall with Sir Oscar Purificacion as a special resource lecturer.

Before the lecture, the usual “It’s a Date Game”, “ABC of Love Question Game”, “Valentine Exchange of Hearts” and “Valentine Bookmark Exchanges” were also held. All wearing red dress, everybody had a great time. This year’s theme is “Friendship, Love, Courtship, Marriage and Sex the Christian Deaf Way“. Sir Jojo Esposa together with Sir Jefferson Cortez assisted in some of the games.

A new activity, a short video presentation of love-comedy-fantasy was shown to the audience. Titled “Deaf Butterfly”, the film was about two unattractive star-crossed lovers who are deaf students had an unusual experience which immediately changed their lives. The short-movie was written and directed by Gibson Cruz and Princess Pagaoa. They are also the main characters and were supported by the whole 3rd year Diploma in Arts and Computer Design students. This activity is part of their Digital Video Editing class under Sir Ervin Reyes.

Drama, comedy, masquerade and fun filled activity commemorated MCCID’s 15th Founding Anniversary last October 17, 2008 at Town and Country Hotel.

Each year level were divided into three groups. Each of them presented their comedy skits and dramatization of deaf culture. Winners received medals and special recognitions. They were judged according to the clarity of their theme, full participation of each member, props and special effects and audience impact. The members of the Board of Judges include Sir Oscar Purificacion, Sir Jefferson Cortez and Ms. Emilie Padullon. The presentation of second year students will be included in the final grades of their Deaf Culture subject while each comedy skit was evaluated by the judges from among the three selections; “Very Good”, “Good” and “Fair”.

The school administration was pleasantly surprised when the student organization donated a special large Gold-colored Sign Language Alphabet cased with a matching frame. The sign language frame was specially crafted by Ericson Guillermo. The group also gave a special collage of class photos printed in a huge white tarpaulin courtesy of Emil Zion Punzalan’s Fotoseszion Studio. Zion is also the event’s official photographer.

For his part, Sir Jojo Esposa, MCCID Training Director, accepted the gifts and thanked the student organization in behalf of the school administration. The two items are already displayed on the school’s lobby replacing the old styrofoam A-B-C Sign Language Board.

The celebration ended with a feast of Filipino dishes with which everybody was completely satisfied.

In a separate activity, Mrs. Remedios Esposa, MCCID Registrar presented special Certificates of Recognition to the directors and overall leaders of the group last Wednesday, October 22 at MCCID Lecture Hall. She also gave each of them I-L-Y keychains and congratulated them for the remarkable efforts they did during the foundation day celebration.

A total of eleven medals were brought home by all the faculty, staff and students of MCCID during the 2nd National Capital Region-Abilympics Skills Competition held at three separate venues from November 21 – 24, 2005.

Each deaf student was represented by the particular Local Government Unit which is responsible for the materials, allowances and equipment needed. Here are the winners:

The gold medalists will compete for the 12th Philippine National Skills Competition on December 6 – 7, 2005 at Mapua IT Center and Robinson’s Place, EDSA. Hopefully, the winners will represent the Philippines in the 7th International Abilympics Skills Competition at Shizuoka, Japan in 2007.

The NCR Skills Competition is a joint activity of the National Council for the Welfare of Disabled Persons (NCWDP), Department of Social Welfare and Development – NCR (DSWD), Local Government Units, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) as well as Soroptimist Society of Makati City.

During the Opening Program and Day 1 competition held at Club Filipino, Aquarius R. Balisi competed in Painting and Emil Zion Punzalan for photography. On Day 2 competition held at the Mabini Hall of Quezon Memorial Circle, Oscar Purificacion joined in Poster Designing and Joseph Asuncion in Cabinet Making. The third day saw most of the competitors in Information technology competed at the University of Makati.
