Manila Christian Computer Institute for the Deaf College of Technology strives to make its Official Web Site accessible for all users, including people with disabilities. The website has adopted the Worldwide Web Consortium Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.0, Level AA Conformance (WCAG 2.0 Level AA) as its goal for accessible MCCID Official Website. The guidelines and success criteria of WCAG 2.0 Level AA are organized around the following four principles which lay the foundation for users with disabilities to access and use web content. For our Website to be accessible under these principles, its content must be:

  1. Perceivable – Information and user interface components must be presentable to users in ways they can perceive.
  2. Operable – User interface components and navigation must be operable.
  3. Understandable – Information and the operation of the user interface must be understandable.
  4. Robust – Content must be robust enough that it can be interpreted reliably by a wide variety of user agents, including assistive technologies.

Because of this, the Philippine Foundation for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled, a national award-giving body recognizing those that have made outstanding contributions to persons with disabilities since 1974, has awarded MCCID as the first recipient of the Website Accessibility Award in 2017. Access Keys

Common keyboard shortcuts are applied here. However, since access keys have been dropped as an attribute in HTML 5 and due to its numerous conflicts with existing generally used screen reader software shortcut keys as well as other usability issues, we decided not to implement them in the 7th Edition of the Website.

General Web Site Layout

The newly redesigned web pages are consistent with their design and column positions all throughout the website. It uses the single-column format. It also applied the latest trend which is called Responsive Web Design. It means that the site can be viewed in any screen size (mobile and tablets) and resolution without creating a separate page.

The design specifications are:

  1. The Header has the Home, General Menu Links, and a Search box for easier access. It is also a sticky header. It means that the Header stays to the top of the screen on the scroll.
  2. The inside pages include a right sidebar.
  3. Bread crumbs or composed of link pages where the viewer is currently located.

Other Instructions and Features

  1. The site has a “Skip to Content” link but is hidden from view. However, once you press the tab key, it automatically appears as a button and ready for use. You can now skip and go directly to the main heading of all pages and posts.
  2. All images have ALTERNATE text attributes. Decorative graphics appear on the CSS files.
  3. The website can be resized to any screen and font size.
  4. There are no PDF files, JavaScript, and Flash files embedded.
  5. The website passed the recommended color contrast that is useful for those with poor vision.
  6. The website also passed the Accessibility Validation of AChecker Online Tool of Inclusive Designs Institute of Canada.

If you cannot access content or use features on any part of this website due to a disability, feel free to email the webmaster of Mark 737 Designs and Printing Services.
